Festivals in the Chithirai month (April to May)

(Chithirai Ther) Viruppan
a grand festival that can remove professional imperfections is held in the Tamil month of Panguni (March–April). The Chithrai celebration was started in 1383 by Viruppanna Udayar, a king of the Vijayanagara dynasty. In 1371 (17th day of Vaikasi month), Lord Ranganatha was transported to the holy place following Muslim invasions. Temple at the time was in a terrible state of disrepair. The King of Viruppannan contributed in 1377.
A town called Srirangam, close to Tiruchirapalli (Trichy), is well-known for housing the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple.
