Surviving Tough Times...

These are some unprecedented times. Covid cases are on a rise in my city. There is a sense of panic in the surroundings. All of this has a negative effect on many people. You can see that they are processing something in the background even if they are talking and working normally.

In environments like these, I am feeling a bit low and gloomy. This made me think about feelings and how they make us sense the world around us. How doing daily tasks get tough to work upon and how it is hard to be positive about things. It is in our human tendency to carve for being happy, cheerful, and friendly to people around us. But we need to remind ourselves that only feeling one set of emotions is not going to add value to our lives. It will make our experience as humans very mundane and uneventful.

Sometimes you’re sad, you listen to sad music, you relate to the lyrics, you sulk, and that is alright. Just remember, everything will be fine at the end of the day. Sometimes you’re happy, you write happy positive posts, re-blog delightful stuff, you laugh at everything, you feel like celebrating everything, and that’s okay. We have our moments, we’ve all had those days where we feel sad and we have no idea why. You’re entitled to feel what you want to feel at the moment. Don’t let anyone, including you, tell you that being sad is not right. Don’t let anyone tell you not to celebrate the small things you have accomplished.

Accept your feelings and acknowledge them. It is tempting to believe that the best way to get through hard times is by ignoring emotions and putting on a brave face. We are humans and entitled to feel all spectrum of feelings. By allowing yourself to feel your emotions, you'll see that they will start to fade away and you will be able to find a path forward. Don't try to run or avoid what you are feeling, try to analyze and make sense of what you are feeling. If it is difficult to self-analyze, ask for help.

Let time heal things. We all are going through different things and everyone adjusts to changes differently. Don’t criticize your coping skills or beat yourself up. Self-compassion is important for building resilience, so go easy on yourself.
