Last year during this month things started to take a turn for the worst. Countries were forced to go into lockdowns. Millions of people were stranded all across the globe. Companies all across the globe had to shift to remote working; others had to figure out ways to survive. Public gatherings are no longer an option, if we had to go outside we have to be mindful and always follow social distancing. The normal way of life was changed forever.
But because of all these restraints, there was a boost in technology adoption like never seen before across all aspects of life. Let us see how we have accelerated the new age of innovation and technology adoption.
Medicine:
The world needed to find a cure for the virus and it needed to find it as soon as possible. A normal vaccine development period could last for years. To handle this problem scientists all across the globe joined hands and worked alongside each other. On account of this scientists all across the globe had access to each other's studies and therefore they could work on an effective vaccine in a record time of a year without compromising safety.
Remote work:
As working from home is ready to celebrate its 1st anniversary, business leaders should understand that remote work is here to stay. People have adjusted to the telecommuting model and virtual team meetings. Initial studies have also shown that remote work leads to greater productivity. Big tech giants like Mircosoft, Facebook, Twitter have already agreed to allow staff to permanently work from home. This move has also sparked a new idea of a hybrid workweek i.e employees can work from home while working on individually assigned tasks and come to the office when there are team obligations and meetings. Even after the pandemic is over and everything is back to normal employees will have an option either to go to the office or work from the comfort of their home.
E-Learning:
As people gathering in any area were restricted education institutions could not function in their conventional ways. The concept of e-learning has been around for decades but because of these conditions, it was again brought into the spotlight. India's education market is worth $180 billion and currently, e-learning accounts for about a billion dollars. So the potential for growth is tremendous. Also, it opens up huge possibilities since you are no longer constrained to the location you can learn from a teacher located in another corner of the world.
All this recent development is possible only due to the fact that we do not want to be stagnant and always try to figure out ways to move forward. This new era of tech-celeration is powered by the human desire to find new transformative ways to live our lives despite the fact that we are in a pandemic.
