To enable Team India's thorough preparation for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia in October, both games will be played under the T20I format.
Prior to Rohit Sharma's team's departure for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia in October, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Thursday announced two extra matches for India. To ensure that Team India is fully prepared for the major competition, both games will be played under the T20I format.
Last year in the UAE, India experienced a painful and forgettable group-stage elimination from the T20 World Cup. In the group stage, they won three games in a succession, but their earlier losses to Pakistan and New Zealand guaranteed their early elimination.
In order to make sure no detail is overlooked for the 2022 event, the administration has added two more three-match T20I tournaments for the Indian team that will be contested in September and October. Ganguly announced the schedule during the Board's Apex Council on Thursday, though the dates and locations have not yet been determined.
"Before moving on to the T20 World Cup, we will host SA and Australia for three T20 Internationals apiece. When South Africa's current tour of England is over, they will go to India (in September). "All those locations—Ranchi, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Indore, and Mohali—that were unable to host a game against South Africa will hold T20 Internationals against South Africa and Australia," Ganguly informed the reporters.
The Proteas team was recently welcomed by India; it was their first assignment following IPL 2022. After the decisive match was rained off, the five-match series concluded in a 2-2 tie.
India will meet Australia in a bilateral series for the first time since the Men in Blue's trip to Australia in January 2021.
The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will take place exclusively in Australia with Australia serving as the host nation. All of the tournament's games will be played at Adelaide Oval, The Gabba, Kardinia Park, Bellerive Oval, Perth Stadium, Sydney Cricket Ground, and Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The ICC said in July 2020 that the epidemic had caused both the 2020 and 2021 editions to be delayed by one year. As a result, the tournaments that were initially scheduled to be held by Australia in 2020 and India in 2021 were shifted to November 2021 and October 2022, respectively.
The top two teams from each group will compete in the Super 12s with South Africa, Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, India, and New Zealand.
