3rd Twenty20 International updates: India won the series 2-1 on Wednesday after defeating New Zealand by 168 runs in the third and final T20 International. After deciding to bat, India amassed a mammoth 234 for 4, powered by Shubman Gill's first T20I century (126 not out), and then bowled out New Zealand for 66 in 12.1 overs. Gill maintained his domineering form and hammered his first T20I century to enable India in amassing a huge total. Shubman scored an incredible 126 runs while going undefeated at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, making up for his two poor performances in the first two games.
Hardik Pandya, captain of Team India, chose to bat first against New Zealand after winning the toss. Umran Malik took Yuzvendra Chahal's position in the playing XI for India, and Ben Lister started for New Zealand in place of Jacob Duffy. The first T20I was won by New Zealand, but the hosts rallied in Lucknow to tie the series. The two sides have thus far played competitive cricket.
India's top order, which hasn't fired yet, is the main cause for concern at the moment. Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, and Rahul Tripathi have all had difficulty playing against the New Zealand spinners thus far.
Despite calls for the inclusion of Prithvi Shaw, who made a return on a national scale with this series, Pandya is unlikely to alter the starting eleven with the series on the line.
In order to make the most of the penultimate over, Shubman Gill hammers Ben Lister for a few fours and a six. This is another example of his class. In front of Shubman, New Zealand is astonished and further rendered dumbfounded by the 17 runs that came off it. Michael Bracewell nearly used a stunner to get rid of him, but he lost it.
In his outstanding last over, Daryl Mitchell managed to dismiss Hardik Pandya on the first pitch after giving up 6 runs. However, India has set a huge 234/4 in front of New Zealand thanks to Shubman Gill's stunning century. As he blasted the bowlers all over the field to record his first T20I century, Gill proved to be too much for New Zealand tonight.
Daryl Mitchell is the final man down for New Zealand, and Umran Malik secures the victory for India. Absolute dominance from India as they defeated Mitchell Santner and company by a whopping 168 runs. They did not put up a fight today with either the bat or the ball. With a magnificent century, Shubman Gill created the stage for the pacers to completely destroy the New Zealand batting order.
