Does anything remind you of me?
Two years ago, I met someone on a dating app. I swiped him right because we shared the same workplace and later checked for his profile. Weird, right? This is how our journey started.
I spotted him outside the cafeteria and felt an instant connection, not sure about what fate had for us. Our first meet was like talkative me and shy he. I wasn't sure if we will meet again. Now I don't believe in first impressions anymore because this guy turned out to be very talkative and the opposite of how he was during that first meet.
This friendship started with a dating app and turned into something very amazing. There is a myth about such apps, either people hook up or they become dating partners. We overcame all the myths, confusions and turned out to be BFF's.
Sharing the same workplace with a difference of 7 floors gave us a chance to sneak out for short breaks. Eating Chole-kulche, having tea breaks and me always asking him to blow on my tea so that it comes at room temperature, making plans, roaming around. On a random day, he used to drive at my place in the middle of the night and took me out just for a tea at our favourite Dhaba. Stuff that usually couples do, Right? Nowadays we are so overwhelmed with the thought that a boy and a girl can never be just friends. On contrary, yes we are not just friends, he is that special person with whom I can share everything without the fear of getting judged. He holds a very special place in my heart.
What made us very close? I guess it's the distance that we experienced during this never-ending lockdown. We all have a variety of friends. Some are Facebook-only friends, Some friends pop up when they need something or want to cringe about their love life, Some people will be good time only friends. There's also the life-long friends, who you see once in a blue moon but feel like no time has passed when you finally do catch up.
Our catch-ups happened virtually, a few but brought us very close. Checking up on each other, making sure either of us is not experiencing FOMO, constant assurance of being there for each other helped me a lot in surviving this difficult pandemic time.
Being with him is like, “Oh yes, I got him”. Like relationships, we also had some big fights but we used communication as the key. He has left an impression on my heart that will never fade away.
Someone has truly said, “Unexpected friendships are the best”.
