The Plight Of Migrant Workers

There is no section of the society which has remained untouched by the menacing virous ,but there is a section of the society for whom the scenario was already bleak and this pandemic has added to their plight .Yes , I am talking about the migrant workers ,for years they have been leading a lives in destitution ,leave aside the education ,clothing or shelter  even a two square meal is luxury for them.

This section of the society invariably fails to grab the attention of the authorities , neither are they willing to pay any attention to this despondent section .The only instance they try to acknowledge the presence of these people is during the election , they never shy in making hollow promises to them , but invariably fail when it comes to fulfilling those promises.

We as a society consider these as a blot on our country and underestimate their contribution in the economy . Their contribution is as much valuable as that of an IT professional or any business tycoon .If they decide they can bring our lives and economy to a standstill .They can cease the production , infrastructural development , transport facilities .It is impossible to belief our lives without these workers but these innocent people keep on working without realizing their power and we keep on exploiting them without a second thought.

This pandemic have disillusioned their already difficult lives even more .Last year when the government announced the lockdown these people were left in lurch .They were forced to walk thousands of miles with kids and elderly .They were left to figure out what they want to do either die by hunger or walk  in heat of may to reach their  hometown which might at lest give them the satisfaction of being with their family .The posterity will never forgive us for inflicting these woes to these people .

But there was no respite for them back home as there were no source of income they were forced to return  back as the lockdown eased, but life was not same as before decreased wages increased rents added to their woes but still their wounds healed with time things had just started to improve that the second wave hit the country and they were forced to go through the same plight all over again .

Government needs to make policy to improve the condition of these people .These people should be informed of their rights as citizens and we as a society need to grow more empathetic towards these workers.
