on the occasion of the opening of 3rd phase of covid 19 vaccination the centre announced tht this vaccination will cover the entire adult population of the country.ther are few states which are allow the vaccination drive coordinating the maker procuring from open market for the drive.
the vaccination drive was reportedly to start in Saturday, but when i went to the hospital, the authority told me that only 2nd dose for the upper 45 yrs is likely to given and they haven't any vaccines for adults due to delays of delivery to the states.
12 days ago the centre approve the vaccination for the 18-44 yrs old population on may 1st.but the problem is that there is a shortage of vaccine in the stockpile of the makers.
“We have already discussed with states and have guided them that all the free doses given to private vaccination centres should be accounted,at the same time taking these additional doses the State governments should run the vaccination sites.a clear direction has been issued"
Luv Aggarwal,joint secretary,MOHAFW,said on Friday.
this could effectively mean that a large number of beneficiaries who already taken the first dose will not be able to get the second dose in the private vaccination sites due to delays in delivering the vaccines.
to my opinion its unlikely to begin the vaccination for the adults in near days.
on the other hand india made nearly 51 million doses in march , about 10 million in feb and nearly million in January. after discounting for wastage, there are little buffer left, forcing the daily administered doses to slide below 2 million shots a day from an average 2.5-3 million daily doses in initial weeks of april.
as a result there are reports that peoples of 45 yrs age go away from hospitals despite of pre registration for the vaccination.
with a slower pickup in production the supply chain does not able to math the rise in demands of vaccines.
sates, UTs of Delhi, goa, punjab jharkhand, rajasthan, kerala have voiced concern about the inadequate stocks of vaccines.
queries sent to the health ministry,SII and bharat biotech remained unanswered.
hope for the better situation in comming days.
