In the heart of Kishtwar there lies a very famous big playground locally called as CHOWGAN.KISHTWAR is a district of Jammu and Kashmir Union territory. The land of CHOWGAN is extended to 520 Kanals or 165 Acers. CHOWGAN never fails in surprising people by its mesmerizing beauty, charm or by its serene nature. The land of CHOWGAN is surrounded by many different types of trees like Chinar, deodar and many others. Cattle feed here. Children, old people almost everyone comes here to enjoy the beauty. Although Kishtwar is famous for many things just like walnuts, apples, saffron or sapphire. But the main attraction has gained only by this green land that's chowgan. If we look on the North of CHOWGAN we can find temple called GORI SHANKER MANDIR and in its South there is a famous Shrine namely ASRAR-UD-DIN BAGDADI.
The famous ground of Kishtwar is now becoming more and more beautiful because Government and public both are giving their best in maintaining the standard of this gem. From some ancient sources we also get to know that this CHOWGAN was earlier called by name GOVERDHANSAR which was a huge lake but with time it got evolved in a ground then used for cattle to graze. Later on people started coming here.
However the ground is now evolved in a modern ground as government have installed huge electric lights from all the sides of it and have planted different varieties of flowers.
People visit here ealry in the morning to keep their health better. When you come here in the morning you can witness a large number of people doing exercises, some involved in cycling or running. Later in the evening children come here to play. They play football, cricket, volleyball, handball etc. All the love stock of this district almost depend upon the CHOWGAN ground. It's herbs and plants are very nutritious for animals.
On the North of CHOWGAN there a small helipad. During harsh weather when villagers find difficulty in travelling because of the heavy snow then the service of helicopter is being operated from Kishtwar to any far village. Thus making lives of those villagers easy in low prices.
One must pay a visit to Kishtwar so that one can get a chance to blend in with nature it's cold breeze in the summers or snowfalls in the winters. CHOWGAN beauty doesn't depends upon weather in every changing of weather the beauty of this piece of land gets glorified. I just hope people should preserve this best gift of nature so that like we took the advantage of it our future generations might witnesses the charm of the beautiful land.
