Welcome back guys! to my blog. I hope all of you are doing great. As you have seen todays topic above. So let's start…….
Since last few days certain thoughts have been predominant in my mind. Today these thoughts found the way to this article. The organisation where I work had planned various events for celebrating ‘Azadi Ka Amrit’ Mahotsav. Event after event the tempo was picking up and soon everyone was eagerly waiting for a major celebration where many dignitaries outside the organisation were to be felicitated. Just as the preparations were in full swing, the cruel fate showed its true face. One of our colleagues posted outside Nagpur suddenly died of cardiac arrest. The time was around 7 pm when the news reached the organisers. Everyone was shocked to the core. The felicitation function was slated the next day in the pre- noon session. What to do? Many in the organising team could not even suggest a solution.
At this crucial time the head of the organisation took quick decisions. The timing of the function was rescheduled. The arrangements for the deceased colleague were put in place. Directions were issued and soon even though numb with shock, people swung in action.
Arrangements for the toned- down rescheduled function began. Simultaneously the administration under the guidance of the senior must officer, was managing various details like receiving the family of the deceased colleague, providing support to the family members for other required arrangements till his daughter reached from Germany and various other logistics.
Next day, the felicitation function was a huge success. No one showed their grief on face and each one performed the duty with a smiling face and crying heart.
At the end of the function, as the guests took leave, I could see the sadness in the eyes of the Head of the Organisation who did not have the liberty to express her emotions. She was to be the pillar of the strength for all others. As if her eyes were saying, ‘The Show Must Go On’.
The Show Must Go On…..It is so easy to say these words but so difficult to adopt. It is not everybody's cup of tea to ensure that the show must go on. I remember my maternal grandfather. it was 1940 or 1941 when my maternal grandmother died. She left behind her, eight children and her husband to look after those kids in various age groups. My mother, the seventh child among the eight children; was six years old and the youngest one was 3 years old. My grandfather used to conduct food preservation classes for womenfolk from nearby rural areas.
It was a Government initiative and he was in charge of this programme. The next day or on the third day after my grandmother died, he took the two youngest children with him and went to conduct the classes. The ladies participating in the programme started crying. They requested him to go home and complete the period of mourning. My grandfather replied, “I can't waste your time and money. I must do my duty. The show must go on”. In our family, generation after generation this story is told to the younger ones and somewhere the character of the listener gets shaped up.
The unfortunate incident and the happenings there after made me think, what does it take to reach this state of discharging such a heavy responsibility? I think tremendous mental strength, clarity of thought, nobel purpose and faith in one's action from the basis of such ability.
Death brings with it a flood of tears and numbness of thought. To rise above it and let not the life- cycle be put to half is not very easy to attain.
The pandemic has taught us a very valuable lesson.
Even when tormented by personal loss, many a COVID warriors ensured that the show went on. These COVID warriors ranged from doctors, nurses, health workers, Government servants and each and everyone who ensured that the life went on.
The grocer, vegetable vendor, milkman, domestic help, everyone contributed in minimising the impact of the society becoming off- balance. As per a quota available on the internet, “Life is not a rehearsal. Each day is a new show. No repeat, no rewind. So, give your best shot in the first and last chance all your worthy acts as the show must go on and on”. Each of us has it within us to contribute towards the larger objective of ‘Show Must Go On’. The real- life examples help us to realise it.
