Friends On The Way..

Welcome back guys! to my blog. I hope you all are doing great. As you have seen today's topic above. So lets start with a story…

The narrow lane that passes by the children's school and gradually climbs towards the flat hillock is the route for my regular morning walk, barring of course the days of COVID- related restrictions. The lane tapers down in a jigsaw puzzle to vertically touch the majestic Ring Road that has connected the Koradi road to Wadi. The Ring Road has been widened and cemented recently with a well- marked divider line embellished with electric poles that have spread their slightly curved arms to illuminate the up and down stretches. Many new buildings are coming on the edges of this road altering the barren landscape fast.

On my way up the lane, comes a big slum inhabited mostly by artisans like masons, 5- wheeler carriages wait here eternally for temple, mosque and a Buddha Vihar are landmarks of the locality staying in perfect harmony side by side. While going for a walk, I never forget to carry a packet of biscuits are not humans, but a lot more humane than many of my acquaintances!

Although they do not know how to speak, they vividly communicate their joy and sorrow in subtle gesture. My first friend is a small puppy, not a pedigree one, but extremely cute, nevertheless.

Seeing me from a distance, it starts jumping and barking, showcasing all its gymnastic skill until I fondly pat its brownish fur on the back. I feed the pup a few biscuits from my stock and move on. About 100metres ahead, a tethered goat and her three beautiful kids are seen. Those kids are my friend number 2.

The black and white patches on their silken bodies glitter as they bleat and jump randomly. The mother goat knows me well and does not mind to spare her little ones in my custody. For few minutes, I play with the kids encourages me to feed them further.

The last friend on the lane is a cow. Every morning, I find it standing at the same place, tied to the same gate within same premises. I wonder whether her owner ever allows the cow to roam freely and mix with her ilk. As soon as I come near, the cow steps forward and tries to reach me from inside the gate. She exhales hot on my hand and drags the remaining biscuits from my palm with her long blackish tongue. If I do not meet the animals on any day, the morning appears somewhat dull to me.

When I reach the Ring Road, the Sun is already up on the eastern sky. I pray to the star to brighten our days and lighten our stress. A cool breeze then blows from the Gorewada forest and a folk of wild parrots cross the sky in a green parade.

A few heavy trucks pass with a trial of dust. I can see the huge chimneys of Koradi Thermal Power Plant ata a distance spewing white fumes in the air.

During the lockdown, I badly missed the morning walk, especially whenever the thought of my non- human companions crossed the mind. They kept waiting for me on the way without knowing my travails when mornings used to pass leaving me confined in four walls!

THANK YOU!!!
