Cleaning Grave Stones Is Her Favourite Hobby

Everyone has different tastes, interests and dreams, don't they? Some will stay that way in life. Some will give up halfway through. But there are also people in this world who have some likes that seem unusual. This is about such a girl.

TJ Kleeman is a 12-year-old Australian resident. Like other children, she was afraid of ghosts as a child. But what did she do to change that fear? Go to the cemetery and clean the graves, even when he was just four years old. Now that her fear of ghosts has changed, she continues to clean graves.

Eight years later, this job has become one of her favorites. She says she wants to continue this work for the rest of her life. Kleeman and her family moved to Tweedheads in northeastern New South Wales in 2012. Near her home was a cemetery with more than 3,500 tombs. She and her younger brother Dash, who were just four years old at the time, were terrified when they saw the shadows by the window at night, thinking they were ghosts. To allay their fears, their mother, Tabeta, took them to the cemetery. The mother instructed the two children to clean the tomb covered with moss. Both brothers obeyed their mother's instructions. But it was a turning point in Kleeman's life. "When we first moved here, I was terrified, but when I started cleaning the graves I realized that this was all I had. Now this is my passion and the cemetery is my favorite place," she told the Daily Mail Australia.

The mother said her daughter would go to the cemetery two or three times a week. 'We will not leave her alone. She spends about an hour cleaning the grave. Then we will be with her. If it's something that makes her happy, let her do it, 'said Tabeta.  LThe eighth grader cleans the graves with great care and sincerity. At first she would sweep away the withered flowers and leaves from the top of the tomb. The dirt and dust from the concrete and tiles are then scraped off with a brush.  Finally wash thoroughly with soap and water. It would take her a year to clean up the thousands of graves in the cemetery. No matter how clean it is, when it gets windy and rainy, it gets dirty again. However she does not mind and has no hesitation in cleaning up again.

"She knows it's a job that never ends, but she does it well," her mother said. TJ has many goals for the future, including starting a Community Volunteer Day to clean up the entire cemetery together. She is also thinking of starting a business cleaning cemeteries that families cannot visit directly. She has never told any of her friends about this extraordinary desire of hers. However, on Australia Day, she received Tweedshare's Young Achiever in Community Service Award 2020.  She hopes that more people will come forward to clean the graves, inspired by her work.
