Deshwanti is a village located at a distance of about 30 km from Nashik. This is a village that suffers from drought every year. However, there has been no water shortage in the village for two years. The retired professor named Ashok Sonawen is behind this miracle. Ashok, a political science professor, was retired in 2017. Ashok was also the National Service Scheme Program Officer. That is why he had an understanding of water conservation. Ashok used to go to classes on the same subject.

But in 2018, things changed. That year he came to Deshwanti village to take a class on water conservation. At that time, the village was in the grip of a severe drought. The students shared their concerns about how to conserve water in a place where very little water is available. He told the students that the two hills he saw during his visit would help in rainwater harvesting and water conservation. So by the time we went next time, a lot of young people were coming forward ready for water conservation.

But there were lots of obstacles. The first step was to get the permission of the Grama Panchayat. The reason was to dig trenches all over the village. All the tools and money needed to cut it were donated. The digging of the trenches started in the middle of a very hot summer. Nearby, farmers had to cultivate. So the work had to be done for the summer. During the first monsoon, they were able to collect small amounts of water. After realizing that the incident was a success, the cooperation from the Gram Panchayat increased. Thus trenches were made between the two hills. Ashok and his team planted plants to prevent soil erosion. The Zilla Parishad soon declared the village a drought-free village.

Praveen, a social worker who was involved in the activity, said that many locals made fun of them after they started working ... but very soon the locals started to feel the change. Today there is no shortage of water in that village. Ashok is also very happy with the change in the village. Ashok plans to follow the same pattern in other drought-hit villages.

There is no water related problems exists in this hottest village. They are getting sufficient water for their own purposes. This whole incidents proves that the non usage of water tanks improves the stability of mother nature
