The acronym of the QR code is the ‘Quick Response’ code. It is a type of two-dimensional matrix bar code. Bar code has information held vertically, while QR code has the information placed vertically and horizontally.QR code stores 100 times more information. QR code was first introduced by Masahiro Hara working for the Japanese automotive company ‘Denso Wave’, in the year 1994. The main purpose of the use of QR codes was to track the vehicles which are manufactured and for scanning the components used. The company does hold a patent on it, it has been granted a free license, and anyone can use it.

QR codes are secured with 3 squares shaped in the corners with black and white symbols. Many QR code scanning apps are used that can be scanned using the camera that is present in smartphones for Android or iOS. Some tablets have QR code readers for example Apple Ipad.

QR code types based on the position and designs come mainly into two categories namely static and dynamic. Unlike barcodes, QR codes are used for all virtual customer products that are scanned mechanically.

QR codes can store up to 7089 numeric and 2953 alphanumeric characters. Around three types of information can be stored in the QR code data types, sizes, and error correction levels.
