VadaKkumnathan temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to lord Shiva in the city of thrissur, Kerala, India. This temple is a classic example of Kerala architectural style, with monumental tower on each of its four sides ,in addition to kuttan balaam. Inside the temple, there are mural paintings depicting various scenes of Mahabharata. The shrine and kuttan balaam are decorated with vignettes carved into wood. The temple ,along with the mural painting,is designated as an Indian national monuments under the amasr act. According to popular local folklore, this is the first temple built by parashurama, Vishnu's sixth avatar.surrounding the vadak munasan temple, teckin kadumaidan is the main venue for the famous thrissle pulaum festival. 

Adi Shankara is believed to have been born by Shiva guru as Shiva's amsavatara and by karadi as alyamba as a result of a prayer to sir vadak mundane. The couple enthusiastically prayed at the temple for 41days. Legend has it that Shiva appeared to the couple in their dreams and offered them a choice. They can either have a mediocre boy who does young. Both Shivagur and alyamba chose the letter.they named their son Shankara in honor of Shiva. Legend has it that adi shanakara achieved videhamkti at the vadakkun nasan temple. The narration given by kerallya shankaravijaya identifies the temple as the place of his death. He also founded four mutts in thrissur known as edayil madhom and vadake Madhan. Initially, paramecca view bagavathi was also located inside the vadakukun nadan temple. Later, a new temple was built outside and the idol of goodness was brought to this place.for comparison, according to the temple document,the koodalmanikyam, kodungallur bagavathy, and ammattiruvadi temples in urakam are older than the vadakkunathan temple. Some suggest that there was also an influence from Buddhist and join temples. Nambudiris, who was in charge of the temple affairs, was called yogiati lippad. When nambudiris took control of the area, the temples were also under their control. Yogitrippaads was chosen by thrissurdesam. Prior to to the region of sakathan thampuran, the yogiatiripppad system was in decline. Later, Cochin's maharaja gained sovereignty over the temple. When Sulthana thamburan took the throne of the kingdom of cochin from Thripunithura to thrissur because he had a personal relationship with thevadak munasam temple. He later wiped out the teak forest around the temple and forset around the temple and hosted the famous surisur pourham festival. The kings personal interest in the temple also changed the fate of the city. Of the city of thrissur and the temple with the help of the kingdom of travancore sakusantan plan. Feed his Army, he rented a cooking boat from vadak munasam temples.before leaving the city of thrissur, he not only returned the ship, but also presented a large bronze lamp to the temple. 

Calicut Zamorin from 1750 to 1762, the affairs of the zamorin temple were commanded by Calicut, who attacked the city of thrissur and ruled the temple and the city. In 1762,the maharaja if Cochin regained control of the city of thrissur and temple with help. During the tipu sultan invasion, the temple was not attacked by tipu's army. Tipu sultan destroyed many temples in the thrissur district at the time, but did not
