Why do people lie?
Lies happen in most homes, whether it's the kid standing over the smashed crayon and says he didn't break it, or the teenager offering a story for why she was late to school.
Sometimes people tell lie to avoid a situation where he/she feels low or cornered. But in some cases, they tell lies implicitly.
Scientists say there are various reasons why some people lie often. One is that the lie being told may not seem a lie to the person who's telling it. And the other says something to relieve pressure and make the situation work. For that person, they want to believe what they just said.
People who lie repeatedly often have a desire to be in control. When the truth of a situation doesn't agree with such control they produce a lie.
It would be nice if we could believe everything we are told, whether from that child with the broken crayons or the politician at a political rally. But that's not going to happen and therefore it's important for all of us to sometimes dig just a little deeper and try to find the actual truth.
Four lies:
White lie:
White lies are lies that are used to help others even at some cost to ourselves. That is others get positive benefits when we lie.
โOf course I remember youโ
Gray lie:
Most of the lies we tell are Gray lies. They are partly to help others and partly to help ourselves. They may vary in shade of Gray depending on the balance of help and harm.
โYou look beautiful but the outfit fits me better than you doโ
Black lie:
Black lies are simple and selfish. We tell black lies when others gain nothing and reduce harm against ourselves or increase our benefits. But the very worst gain us a little yet harm others is a great deal.
"You look absolutely disgusting"
Red lie:
Red lies are used to hurt or to take revenge on someone. The motive is to harm others even at the expense of harming themselves.
"If you speak the truth there is nothing to remember". And things are easy rather than making it a mess and complicated.
So, what kind of lie do you tell people?๐
