It broke the Guinness World Record for the most bungee jumps made in one hour by a South African woman, Linda Potgieter, 50. The previous record was held by Veronica Dean, a fellow South African who bungee jumped 19 times at the same spot 19 years earlier. South Africa's tallest bridge, Bloukrans Bridge, situated 216 metres above the Bloukrans River, was the venue for the jump.
During an hour, Linda Potgieter bungee jumped 23 times, setting a new world record. According to Guinness World Records, Potgieter jumped more than 20 metres outside in an hour than anyone else.
Bloukrans Bridge, South Africa's tallest bridge, at 216 meters (708 feet) above Bloukrans River, was the site of the record-breaking jump. Veronica Dean, another South African, previously held this record with 19 bungee jumps at the same site in 2000.
She enlisted the aid of coach Eugene Eloff as she got ready for the record-breaking effort, and he put in place a rigid training schedule to improve Linda's condition. While playing the adventurous sport for an hour may not seem like it would be very physically taxing, it actually takes a lot of core strength and cardiovascular conditioning.
On the day of Potgieter's formal attempt, she leapt off the platform and dove headfirst into the river below while flailing her arms like an eagle, starting her one-hour timer. She was promptly winched back up after that, and she resumed her leaps.
She began to weary after a few leaps, but she persisted in performing jumps because she was desperate to beat the previous record. She could hardly stand by the time she finished her 19th jump, but she persisted.
With just over a minute left, Potgieter finished her 23rd leap. "My God deserves all the honour. He is to blame for it. Thank you to my kids and spouse. Just thankful, really. Potgieter, who was drained, stated, "I need to throw up in a second.
It was indeed the pinnacle of breaking records, according to Sofia Greenacre, the official adjudicator for Guinness World Records. " It was unlike anything I've ever seen, and I believe this record may have peaked at this point. It's going to be incredibly difficult to defeat it".
