INTRODUCTION-

Dachshunds are dog's breed used for hunting purpose like rabbits, and foxes. Hunters used to take them for hunting. The name itself shows that (Dach means long and short body and hund means dog). They most commonly known for their playfulness and great with kids.

These dogs are famous for their short legs and long body.

Origin of Dachshunds-

Dachshund first originated in Germany. They are traditionally called as a symbol of Germany.

Though its first origin started in 15th century but breed's development began in 17th century at Germany and they are called as Dachshunds.

 According to American Kennel Club, the Dachshund was ranked 12th among dog breeds in US.

Character of Dachshund -

• Lively
• Lovable
• Loyal
• Courageous
• Love to cuddle

Life span -

The life span of Dachshund is 12-15years because of their size but the normal dog only reaches 10-13 years. They live long when they take proper treatment like exercise atleast 1 hour per day.

They live long when they recieve special care throughout their lifetime.

Dachshund physical appearance-

1. A standard dachshunds weighs around 16-32 pounds.
2. Miniature dachshunds weighs 11 pounds or less than 11 pounds.
3. There are three types of coats : long haired, shorthaired and wirehaired.
4. They are usually 1 foot in length.

Dachshund health-

1. They face many health issues like -

• Spinal cord problem
• Paralysis
• Heart attack
• Obesity
• Cataracts.

    2. The risk of intervertebral disk disease is more by jumping, and also due to rough handling.

Types of Dachshunds -

• Short haired
• Long haired
• Wirehaired

Short haired-

        Shorthaired dachshunds were commonly known by everyone and everyone love to play with them. Their short leg make them to look cute but their short hair could not protect them from bites of other animals and thorns.

Long haired-

          The silky coats of these type of dachshunds protects from thorns, rain and cold.

Wirehaired-

           The wirehaired dachshunds have thick coat to protect them from mud, rain and thorns. These breed of dachshunds do not look glamorous, but they are best for hunting.

Colors of Dachshunds- 

• One colored - one colored are mainly two types red or cream. 
• Two colored - a combination of two colors, which have main color as base color throughout the body and cream, tan, or any chocolate markings on face, legs, ears or chest. Almost Black and Tan being the most common combination since from long time.
• Patterns - patterns are two or more Colors .
