The world is diverse and so are the people in it. Each of us has unique appearances just like having unique personalities. All of us differ in our heights, weights, skin colour, hair colour, body types, the amount of fat and what not!
Well, is that a problem? No, absolutely NO!
The problem is in normalizing certain categories and tagging them as ‘beautiful’ or ‘the best’ or ‘the lucky’.
How can everyone have a slim body or fair skin; how can everyone have that so-called ‘best body’ type, when each of us is born different.
No! I am not here to lecture you. This is intended to be a self-check for the readers.
Do you feel uncomfortable when you see a plumb person or someone with dark skin? Or do you feel sympathetic when you see someone who is shorter or lean? Do you feel like making fun when you see pimples on someone’s face?
If yes, then you too belong to the community of ‘body-shamers'. Then you should realize that you are one of the many reasons why some people feel insecure and unhappy in this world. And you must realize that knowingly or unknowingly, you support this weird idea. In simpler words, you are like a threat to your fellow beings. Imagine how cruel it is!!
No matter whether you speak it out or not, such feeling is the result of the bias you have towards body, in general,- how it is and how it should be. And it is that ‘feeling’ which needs to be wiped off.
So what is the remedy? It is way simpler than all these.
Just remind yourself that body is something you get for granted, unlike something you make out of your skills. We are not responsible for the type of body we have, all that we can do is to keep it healthy and clean. We can’t change its features instead embrace them.
Yes, this is a time when people are more health conscious than ever before and working out to get fit. But it is, after all, a personal choice that depends on one’s life priorities. We can’t blame anyone for not doing it.
So let’s be humane. Let’s train ourselves, to see the person they are and to stop targeting their physical appearances. Everyone deserves to be happy and proud, and we are no one to block it.
Let’s spread love and happiness.
