Arulmozhi Varman, also known as Raja Raja Cholan was one of the most celebrated Tamil King ever among South Indian Kings. But Why?……I would give you some reasons that you would also celebrate him. Predecessor of Uthama Cholan ,Raja Raja the Great was the greatest Emperor ever and ruled the regions of South India and Sri Lanka.

The main reason to celebrate him is because of the living wonder which stands high indicating his presence the mastery of Architecture, The Tanjavur Temple or The Brihadeeshwara Temple. The architecture methods of this temple still remains a mystery to today's modern architects that how this master piece was built with existing technologies of those days!!!!!!!

The second reason is he was the first to install a bank in his era called the “SRI RAJA RAJESWARA UDAIYAR PERUM PANDRAM”.

The third reason is that he was well aware of the importance of water bodies even during that time and hence he created a “AAYAKATU SABAI” ,a special board to take care of water bodies.

Raja Raja Cholan was a king who encouraged every culture and religion. Though he practiced a certain religion he also encouraged other religions. He allowed the Buddhists to build a Chudamani Vihara in his reign and his second daughter was said to follow Buddhism and he never opposed her.

Also he was said to be great conqueror with a great army of soldiers and he himself was said to have good military skills .He was very much fond of his sister Kundavai and lived according to her upbringings. He was so fond of her that he named his first daughter after her.

He was succeeded by his son Rajendra Chola who shifted his capital from Tanjore to Gangaikondacholapuram. This temple also serves as an architectural marvel and has got its name so because Rajendra Chola asked the kingdoms he defeated to send pots of Ganga River Water and fill it in the wells of this temple. It was initially called the “CHOLAGANGAM”.Then its name was changed to the present.

Sadly his death still remains a mystery .Like any other king he does not have any dedicated mausoleum for himself. The mausoleum that is shown now is in no way proved to be his, but is believed that he spent his last days in Udayalur and his mausoleum is in Udayalur, A small village in Tamil Nadu.

Now, we can definitely know why we need to celebrate him and spread his pride over the world !!!!!!!!!!
