Clean white sandy beach, blue sky looking at the sea, beautiful seats to listen to the stories of the sea breeze, view towers, footpaths, huts... The truth is that not many people know that such a beach is right next to us. What was said is about Kappad beach. The same beach where Vasco da Gama landed in the 15th century. Many people will be surprised to know that Kappad has also been selected as one of the cleanest beaches in the world by a foreign agency.
Kappad Beach has received the Eco Label Blue Flag certificate from the International Foundation for Environment Education in Denmark twice. Eight beaches in India have got the Blue Flag status. This certificate is issued on the basis of 33 strict criteria related to coastal hygiene, safety, services and environment. Beaches are screened for certification by a jury of top environmentalists and scientists. Kappad has earned this recognition by taking into account various factors such as its eco-friendly approach, utilization of solar energy, efficient waste management practices and local biodiversity conservation. Chief among them is the litter-free coast. Tourist safety and clean water are also important. Around 30 women are engaged in cleaning to make the shore of Kappad always clean and tidy.
On the Kannur route, it is about 20 km from Kozhikode town to Kappad. Before entering the beach, you can see the stupa erected to commemorate the landing of Vasco da Gama. Beach is now a tourist's paradise with its natural harmony. Thousands of tourists come here every day regardless of the time of day. You can walk along the 500 meter interlocked walkway and enjoy the clear blue sea. The beach gives more emphasis to sunbathing. With the blue flag status, tourists including foreigners are coming here to watch sea urchins. All the open shower facilities for that have been prepared here. Evening beach views are a new experience. The sandy sands, the blue sea, and the reefs share stories with each other. Next to it, the fishermen are slowly rowing with their boats. The waves are generally low due to the construction of four dams. So you can bravely come to Kappad to spend a day with your family and take a bath in the sea. The main attraction of Kappad are the rocky cliffs known as Tuvapara. 1498 - History says Vasco da Gama landed here on May 27 with 170 sailors. It marked the beginning of the relationship between India and Europe. Malabar was then ruled by the Samuthiris. At that time Malabar was famous for spices and calico silk. This attracted white people here. It is from this beach that the foreign rule that changed the future of India was thanked. What follows is a history of struggles.
Sri Orupottamkav Bhagavathy Temple is located right next to Thuvapara. In the evenings, the place turns into a musical center with the whistling of the wind, the soft roar of the waves and the chants emanating from the temple. There are now protective fences around the bridge to prevent tourists from falling into the sea. Evening is the best time to visit this place, the beach here is much deeper than Kappad beach. Kappad Kadapuram is always under the protection of a life guard.
