Effect Of Human Greediness On Environment

A well known saying, ‘’As you sow so shall you reap.'' This saying proved itself once again. Humans are the most greedy animals on this planet. They started utilising earth's resources at such a rapid rate that it started reflecting back to them. Before going further I would like to enlighten the topic what exactly an environment is.

The environment is a place where all the biotic and abiotic components interact with each other for our benefit and grow. They all are depended on each other to grow. But as the pollution increased so was the pollution. Humans start to exploit natural resources, air pollution extended to such immense that lots of people start to have breathing issues, water became unfit for consumption, land became bare and ill-adaptable for cultivation. Precisely speaking, nature was at a very bad condition, until CORONA pandemic came into picture first.

Talking about India only, when nation imposed the first Lockdown a year ago. It was designed to stop the imminent spread of the Novel CORONA VIRUS, but with that, this lockdown has also proved to have other good aspects too. As all the factories and companies were closed, skies were becoming more clear than before. The reduction of private vehicles, other non-essential transportation, no construction activities also contributed to improvement in air quality.

Fresh air to breathe, wildlife at its best, cleaner Ganga, Yamuna and other rivers water. All this sounds good due to lockdown phases. When everyone thought that the situation seemed to be under control, second wave of CORONA occurred. And what is happening now is in front of all of us. The situation is now getting worse day by day. Cases are rising rapidly day by day causing more deaths than during the first wave of COVID-19. Patients are panting without oxygen.

Everything comes with its own consequences. Not all the phases of crisis have been positive like ;

  • Rise in the volume of non-recyclable waste. Non biodegradable and non-recyclable waste may become very serious problem in the future.
  • Severe cuts in agriculture and fishing expect. This is all due to restrictions imposed by the Govt.
  • Absence of environmental protection co-workers due to lockdown has resulted in arise of illegal deforestation, fishing and wildlife hunting, etc. This is very serious issue.

I am not saying that this is going to be the end, but if the crisis prolonged, many will be forced to abandon existing sustainable production in order to generate income quickly.Last but not least,"Hope for the best."
