Heart disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women in the United States.  Take action today to reduce your risk of heart disease.  To prevent heart disease, you can: Healthy eating 

To be active Maintain a healthy weight,Stop smoking and avoid second-hand smoke Control cholesterol and blood pressure,Drink alcohol moderately, Stress management.  

  The risk is high if: You are a woman over 55 years old.  You are a man over 45 years old. Her father or sibling had heart disease before the age of 55 Your or sister had heart disease before the age of 65.  But the good news is that there are many things you can do to prevent heart disease.

When people talk about heart disease, they usually talk about coronary artery disease (CAD).  Sometimes called coronary artery diseasec(CHD).  This is the most common type of heart disease.  If someone has CHD, the coronary arteries (tubes) that carry blood to the heart are narrowed or blocked.  This happens when cholesterol and fatty substances called plaque build up in the arteries.  Experts do not know what forms the plaque.  They believe it can happen when arteries are damaged by: Too much fat and cholesterol in the blood High blood pressure smoking, Too much sugar in the blood due to diabetes and other health problems when plaque cloge arteries, it makes it difficult for blood to flow into the heart.  Clogged arteries can cause chest pain and heart atttacks. 

The type of treatment you receive depends on the type of heart condition you have.  In general, treatment of heart disease usually includes the following: Lifestyle changes.  Eating a low-fat and sodium diet, exercising moderately for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week, quitting smoking, and limiting alcohol intake can reduce your risk of heart disease.  If lifestyle changes are not enough, your doctor may prescirbe medications to control your heart conditions.  Medical procedure or surgery.  If the medicine is not enough, your doctor may recommend certain procedures or surgery.  The procedure and type of surgery depends on the type of heart disease and the degree of damage to the heart.  

Lifestyle and home remedies:  Heart disease can be imrpoved or prevented by changing certain lifestyles.  The following changes may help those who are trying to improve their heart health.  No smoking.  Smoking is an important risk factor for heart disease, especially atherosclerosis.  Check your blood pressure.  Ask your doctor to measure your blood pressure atleast every two years.  Main a healthy weight.  Eat a healthy diet.  you can control your weight, blood pressure, and cholesterrol levels by taking a good heart diet that is high in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and low in saturated fats, cholesterol, sodium, and free sugars.  

Depression can significantly increase the risk of heart disease.

To stay healthy,wash your hands, brush your teeth and apply dental floss on a regular basis.  Also, take regular medical examinations.  Early detection and treatment can prepare you to improve your heart's health throughout your life.
