Hours after his last match ended in November 2013, the Prime Minister's Office announced the decision to award him Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian title. In 2021, he is the youngest recipient of the award to date and the first sportsperson to receive the award. In 2012, Tendulkar was appointed to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian parliament.

In 2010, Time magazine included Tendulkar in its annual Time 100 list as one of the most influential people in the world. Tendulkar received the Sir Garfield Sobers Cup for Cricket Player of the Year at the 2010 ICC Awards Ceremony. After retiring from ODI cricket in 2012, he retired from all forms of cricket in November 2013 after playing his 200th test match. Tendulkar played a total of 664 international cricket matches, scoring 34,357 runs. In 2013, Tendulkar was included in the all-time Test World XI compiled in 2013 to mark the 150th anniversary of Wisden Cricketers' , and he is the only professional tennis player after World War II, along with Vivi Richards, on the team. In 2019, he was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
Early Years
Tendulkar was born at the Nirmal Nursing Home in Dadar, Bombay on 24 April 1973 [5] [6] [7] [8] into a Rajapur Saraswat Maharastrian Brahmin family .His father, Ramesh Tendulkar, is a famous Marathi novelist and poet and his mother, Rajni, works in the insurance industry. Ramesh named Tendulkar after his favorite musical director, Sachin Dev Burman. Tendulkar has three siblings:
two half-brothers Nitin and Ajit, and one half-sister Savita. They were Ramesh's children by his first wife, who died after giving birth to their third child.
Tendulkar spent his founding years at the Sahitya Sahawas Cooperative Housing Association in Bandra (East). As a young boy, Tendulkar was considered a bully and often fought with the new kids at his school.
He also showed interest in tennis, idolizing John McEnroe. When he was 7-8 years old he was a fan of McEnroe and his love for tennis equaled cricket, according to him that was when I played tennis or cricket.
