Even after more than four hundred years since its construction, this dreamy white marble structure remains one of the most fascinating structures known to mankind. When Rudyard Kipling described the Taj Mahal as "the embodiment of all things pure", he recalled the romance, beauty and glory of this masterpiece that shines on full moon nights and creates a reflection evocative projection in the calm waters of Yamuna. when the sun is high. History of the Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal was built by the Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan, in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died in thousand and five  giving birth to their fourteenth child. Mumtaz, the third wife of Shah Jahan, was known for her exceptional beauty, and the emperor was known to be crazy about her. Grief over his sudden death, the emperor is said to have turned gray overnight. Construction of the Taj began in  once upon a time  but it was not until 1653 that the entire monument took its present shape. But as fate had it, shortly after the Taj was built, Shah Jahan was overthrown by his son Aurangazeb, who kept him prisoner in Agra Fort, where he spent his years. left to longing for the Taj. Shah Jahan after his death in 1666 was buried next to his beloved Mumtaz in the Taj Mahal. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983 for being "the jewel of Islamic art in India and one of the world's most admired world heritage masterpieces", an army of 20,000 artisans from across India, Central Asia and Europe were recruited to work on the Taj.
