Today my blog topic is about Street food.
Street foods are delectably tasty secrets of Indian streets that nobody is ever able to get enough of. India, being the diverse country it is has a plethora of cultural heritage. And with the culture you not only get diverse languages, practices, belief and clothing, but food also plays a very significant role here. When we talk about food, not only the ingredients, cooking styles, and main courses are different but street food also have a vast catalogue.
Momos: From Tibet to the Capital, Delhi. The lip smacking street food comes in a variety of stuffing. You will find numerous choices from veg, chicken, paneer, mutton, tandoori, wheat, fried and even the gravy ones. You will find at least one stall in any part of the capital you go to, but the most famous ones are Momos point in North campus among numerous others.
Thukpa: Thukpa has gained immense popularity in the recent times. Like its cousin momos, Thukpa also is a gift from the north eastern regions. It can be enjoyed in the vegetarian versions or a more delectable taste can be found in the non-vegetarian variant. The noodle soup has immense flavours and can be made with a variety of ingredients.
Pav Bhaji: The land famous for its dishes made from pav, Maharashtra. The state is native to too many pav recipes from Misal pav, usal pav, Vada pav, pav bhaji. Pav bhaji is definitely the most popular one. The mouth watering bhaji is served with a generous dollop of butter and toasted pav.
Puchkas: Puchka, golgappa, pani puri, fulki, pani batasha, this dish has so many names and as is its variants. The minty delicacy is said to find its origin in the state of Bengal. A puffed wafer is stuffed with a mixture of boiled potatoes and chickpeas and also dipped in the tamarind water called jaljeeera. It has a spicy and sweet version and the water is flavoured with different spices.
Idli Sambhar: You cannot go to Chennai and not savour their tasty Idli sambhar. Idli is made from a mixture of Urad dal and rice and sambhar is a tangy vegetable curry broth in which the idli is dipped. You will find numerous roadside stalls for the dish and all crowded. It is served with coconut chutney which actually increases its taste manifold.
Akki Roti: From Karnataka this rice bread is extremely popular. It is a staple breakfast for the people of Karnataka. But people also eat it as a snack whenever they feel like. You will find several road side stalls for this dish and the Office goers and college students and even school kids can be seen enjoying it any day. It is usually served with coconut chutney and hot tea to savour the tasty treat.
