INTRODUCTION
Plastic is the world’s most adaptable material. From bikes to food wraps and from jets to pencils, you can make anything and everything from plastics. With the infinite number of uses, plastic also have some devastating impacts on our planet. Not going in its details, the solution found for the plastic wastes are recycling, landfill and incineration, but most probably we can see thin waste are used as landfills, which would led land pollution and incineration would led to air pollution and the best way is recycling ,but according to facts and figures the recycling rate was just 8.7%in 2018 and 9%in 2019.
So what's the solution?
And the answer is hemp plastic
So what is hemp plastic?
Hemp plastic is a bioplastic made by using industrial Hemp, which is derived from fibre strain of Cannabis sativa plant .
Hemp contains 65-70% cellulose, which is hence easily recyclable and can be manufactured to become 100% biodegradable.
Why we should switch to hemp plastic?
Hemp plastic is increasingly a viable option as an eco friendly alternative to carbon based plastic. Not only is this bioplastic sourced from safe and sustainable hemp plants, but it is also typically both biodegradable and recyclable.
Advantages
1.BIO-DEGRADABLE AND RECYCLABLE
Hemp is a weed ,so it grows prolifically with little water and no pesticides and takes relatively less space and produce more pulp per acre than tree.on the other hand it is recyclable and takes about 3 to 6 months to fully decompose.
2.RENEWABLE RESOURCES AND ECO-FRIENDLY
Hemp is renewable resource that benefits the environment instead of degrading it.Hemp crops prevent soil erosion, reduce water pollution, absorb toxic metals, and can be cultivated over and over again.
It is capable of absorbing up to four times as much as carbon dioxide as trees during its 12 to 14 week growth cycle so as to reduce carbon dioxide emission.
3. MANUFACTURING
Hemp plastic is solely produced using cellulose extracted from hemp plant and therefore causes no toxicity during its production.
4.STRONGER AND LIGHTER
Compared to petroleum based plastics ,hemp plastic is 3.5 times stronger and 5 times stiffer. As a result, hemp plastics are more durable and have a lower chance of breaking ,which makes them safer .hemp plastic is much lighter than regular plastics.
It has only one disadvantage that one is it's production
Where is it used?
i.So we can conclude by saying hemp is an affordable boi-based natural fibre composite which would replace petroleum base plastic raw material
ii.Hemp plastic is not derived from hemp oil/seeds rather from the stalk
iii.many car makers such as BMW,AUDI,FORD and even MERCEDES-C class has 20 kgs of hemp plastic.
iv.Currently ,hemp plastic is used to make speaker systems, guitar picks,3D printer filaments etc.
Conclusion
In spite of having so many advantages ,it was outlawed by US govt. in 1937 due to its potential damaging effect on many powerful industries such as steel at that time ,but now hemp is legally grown ,harvested and produced.
Just imagine where we would be today had these power tyrants not to suppressed the amazing biotechniques of hemp.
Thank you 😊
