Promise…is such a small word and yet adds such a big meaning to any statement which one says to another followed by the word PROMISE! or PAKKA PROMISE!
From the childhood ,we have started making promises to one another , especially when we want someone to believe on what we are saying to them.
Promises were made holding our pinky fingers together (The famous pinky promise gesture) , some were made by pinching on the front neck region taking swears of Gods and Names, and some were made by as simple as a hand shake with the famous of all being made by just using the word 'PROMISE'.
Be it, Promises made to our mothers about not being mischievious again, or to our siblings for keeping their secrets safe, or promising our parents to study and score better the next time .. As we grew older , we started making promises to the friends we make in kindergarten or primary school or high school to remain friends forever and help each other and be there for each other for life with “#BFFS”……. And then hits the adulthood when at some point of life we all realize- How Many Promises Have We been Able To Keep So Far?
I guess… My answer would be ‘Very Least!’
All I am left now is with the memories of “The Promises I Have Once Made” and many of which I don't even remember now.
But year by year as I am growing older, I began to realize the value of the word ‘Promise’, and I want to give the meaning… the value it deserves….to each of the promises I will make now or in future.
PROMISE is not just a word , it is an emotion that may actually affects not much to the maker but to the receiver because the person at the other end of the promise which we have made will always look forward for us to fulfill it. They might give us many more chances to do that which we don't even deserve!
The way I have treated the humble and polite gesture of ‘Making Promises’ in the past has turned out to be a 'Lie' in the present .
So now , when I am going to make a promise , I am going to be truly respectful towards it and keeping in mind how much it may actually mean to them and how much of it I actually meant!!!
Thankyou for your precious time.
