Hares and jackrabbits are classified under the genus Lepus under the family Leporidae. Rabbits are classified under the same family under which rabbits are classified. Hares are larger in size and shape than hares. They eat the same food. Rabbits are generally herbivorous and have long ears and are fast runners. They usually live alone or in groups of two rabbits. Rabbit species are native to Africa, Eurasia, North America, and the CaribbeanFive species of the Leboridate family that have the word "rabbit" in their name are not considered true rabbits: the hispid hare (Caprolagus hispidus) and four species of red rock hare (genus Pronolagus). Meanwhile, jackrabbits are rabbits, not jackrabbits.
A rabbit less than a year old is called a leveret in English. A flock of many rabbits is called a "drove" in English.Rabbits do not give birth to their young in underground burrows or burrows like other species of the Leboridae family. Instead, they give birth on flat nests made of undulating depressions or grasses. Baby rabbits do not have the same protection provided by pits or cages as baby rabbits. Instead, nature has gifted baby rabbits with fur and open eyes at birth. They can be independent and fend for themselves after birth. On the other hand, the young of the pit rabbit and the downy rabbit are born blind and hairless.[4]
All hares (except cottontail hares) live underground in burrows or burrows. Meanwhile rabbits (and cottontail rabbits) live in simple nests above the ground. They do not usually live in groups. Rabbits are generally larger than hares. They also have longer ears than hares. Rabbits have black markings on their fur. Rabbits are not domesticated, but pit rabbits are kept as pets in homes. A domesticated rabbit known as a "Belgian rabbit" is a pit rabbit. It was created by selective breeding to resemble the rabbit.[5]Rabbits are said to be deceptive in African folklore. These stories were also told among African slaves in America. These stories are the basis of the stories known as Brer`s Rabbit Tales.
The black side of the moon is considered a rabbit in many cultures, including China, Japan, and Mexico. The constellation Lepus is also thought to represent a hare.
