God bless your day
As long as I have lived my life it has been nothing but a bowl mixed with sweet, sour, spicy ,tangy experiences. My family went from riches to rags, and then stable and now living happily ever after.
I was born in Mumbai but grew up in Goa in a very tiny but beautiful place called Agassaim. It's literally a laid back village with wonderful and interesting people if you know what I mean .
My childhood was super cool. I can say proudly and have no awkwardness in saying that I am a village girl. I remember the days when we had not much to ourselves, but nature never leaves you. Every season mother nature gave us something to fill our hungry belly's.
My village is very famous for sweet potato's and the world famous Chowriso (goan sausages).
In summers we had the best of fruits like mango's, Jackfruit, blackcherrys, jammuns and cashew. I remember every time I was hungry I use to go on our hill pluck a cashew fruit from my favorite tree and just wipe it with my dress and eat it. Done! Stomach full!
My hunger thought me lot of valuable things that I still follow to this day of my life. Not to waste food and eat only how much you can finish rather than wasting it. Till this day it's very hard for me to see when anyone waste food on their plates. It just makes me realize how much I longed for it when I was a kid. The agony of not having enough always keeps me on toes. I remember thinking that I hope there may be some occasion in someones house so we would be invited to indulge ourselves in some delicious meal . That was our situation, some might feel sad but I thank God for those days as it really made me a stronger person with better endurance.
What I have today was a dream far off from my real world back then. I always thought that when I have enough I will drink lots of cold drinks, eat ice cream, have dishes that I can't even pronounce . Sounds funny but those where the thoughts that kept me happy.
Ganesh festival was the best time for me. Me and my sister use to go to visit our neighbors houses every evening to see the Ganesh murthy and it was custom not send anyone empty handed. So my kindhearted neighbours use to give us takeaway bags filled with laddoos, karanji or nevri as they say in Goa. My favorite was Channa ross ,a authentic and must have dish in Goa during Ganesh festivals. I still cannot forget the taste of it, the memories attached to it.
I always make sure my childrens learn the value of not to waste food. To be always thankful of what we have today and to pray for those who are unfortunate and struggle for even a single meal. Be blessed and always thankful.
