From time immemorial drugs have been used by man for medical purpose.But never before has the abuse of narcotics caused such world wide concern and posed an alarming meance to society.Even the Easter hemisphere is not secure from the drug network.The abuse of drugs is a universal problem that brothers the Indian and Americans alike.

Today drug habit has become a fashion among the young in India's principal urban centres.In order to be ‘modern’ students take to drug habit.some other people get addicted to overcome frustration and mental agony.children of quarrelling parents are found to be prone to addiction.studies show that father's of the addicts are generally indifferent or mentally weak Beside,the lack of healthy education,and degradation of moral values also lead to addictio_Minor tranquilizers prescribed by doctors may also lead to addiction if taken regularly for a considerable length of time.The tendency of Indians to follow Western culture bindly is also responsible for the fast spreading drug menace

   Gone are the days when the eastern and the poor developing countries were free from drug abuse.Record siezers of various drugs in the recent police raids have tumed the spot light on drug abuse in India also.The to of India as major transit route has also caused much concern around the world.

        The voluntary indulgence of the youth is necessary to make the masses aware of the dangers of drug abuse.The medically treated addict must be brought in regular connection with the anti drug community,where former drug addicts shall instull confidence in them.in addicts may be  helped to change their negative Outlook .Above all,there should be the strict supervision by his parents and friends.

       The gravity of the present situation demend that the authority and the massess,the government institution and non-official rehabilitation centers should work hand in hand with each other.The addict under treatment should be told time and again that he is not alone.Sucess of the treatment means that he has been helped to build new, positive attitudes and to take control of his life once more.
