WHAT IS A STROKE ?

Stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures and bleeds or the blood supply to the brain is disrupted.Rupture or obstruction prevents blood and oxygen from reaching different parts of the brain.

without oxygen , brain cells and tissues can be damaged and destroyed and destroyed within minutes.

SYMPTOMS OF STROKE

  • Loss of blood flow to the brain destroys the tissues inside the brain .if they control any part of the body there are signs of a stroke
  • paralysis
  • numbness or weakness in the hands, face and feet, especially on one side of the body
  • difficulty speaking
  • loss of consiousness
  • stmbling speech
  • vission problems, black or blurred vision in one or both eyes or double vision
  • loss of balance or coordination
  • dizziness
  • severe and sudden headache

STROKE REQUIRES IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION.IF DELAY IN TREATMENT CAN LEAD TO THE FOLOWING

  • Brain damage
  • chronic disability
  • death

WHAT CAUSES A STROKE ?

There are three main types of stroke

  • Transient ischemic attack [ TIA ]
  • ischemic stroke
  • hemorrhagic stroke

THESE ARE THE MAJOR TYPES OF STROKES

TRANSIENT ISCHEMIC ATTACK [ TIA ]

TIA is caused by a temporary blockage of an artery leading to the brain.Obstruction , usually a blood clot that prevents blood from flowing to certain parts of the brain. a TIA usually lasts from few minutes to a few hours after the blockage is removed and blood flow is restored.

ISCHEMIC STROKE

an ischemic stroke is caused by an obstruction in an artery leading to the brain , such as a TIA this blockage  can cause the blood to clot or it can cause atherosclerosis

HEMORRHAGIC STROKE

A hemorrhagic stroke causes the blood vessels to rupture or leak .blood flows to or around the tissues of the brain ,causing stress and damage to brain cells causes of hemorrhage high blood pressure can cause an aneurysm ( weak, swollen section of blood vessels ) which can lead to rupture of blood vessels

RISK FACTORS FOR STROKE

  • DIET

an unhealthy diet , high in salt and fat

  • NO BODY SHAKING

in activity , or lack of exercise , increase the risk of heart attack

  • ALCOHOL

the risk of stroke also increases if you drink excessively

  • TOBACCO USE

using tobacco in any form increases the risk of stroke because it can effect your blood vessels and heart .nicotine in tobacco raises blood pressure

  • FAMILY HISTORY

some families have a higher risk of stroke due to genetic health problems such as high blood pressure

  • AGE

as you get older, you are more likely to have a heart attack

HOW TO RECOVER A PATIENT FROM STROKE

stroke is leading cause of chronic disability. it is important to begin recovery and rehabilitation from a stroke as soon as possible. only 10% of people can go back to the old way . about 25% will have only minor disabilities left .these are only possible with immediate recovery treatment.

STROKE RECOVERY FOCUSES ON FOUR MAIN AREAS

1.TREATMENT OF LANGUAGE DISABILITY.

a stroke can cause speech and language impairment .a speech therapist will help the patient understand how to speak

2. COGNITIVE THERAPY.

after a stroke , many people experience changes their thinking and reasoning skills. this can lead to changes in behavior and mood. a psychotherapy can help the patient  recover from your previous thoughts and behaviors and control the patient's emotional responses

3. FIX SENSORY DEFICITS.

if the part of the brain that controls sensory signals during a stroke is affected, you may find that your sensitivity is dimmed or not working properly this means  that you may not feel well about things like temperature, pressure or pain

4. PHYSIOTHERAPY

a stroke can weaken muscle strength and a physical therapist can help the patient find ways to cope with limitations to restore the patient's strength and balance as before

HOW TO PREVENT A STROKE

  • quit smoking
  • quit drinking
  • maintain a healthy diet
  • maintain a healthy body weight
  • eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables
  • eat foods low in cholestrol, trans fat and saturated fats
  • be physically active . this will help maintain a healthy weight and lower blood pressure and cholestrol
  • get check ups

if  you suspect that you are experiencing symptoms of stroke,it is imperative that you seek immediate medical attention. clot dissolving drugs can be given only in the first few hours after the onset of symptoms of stroke and early treatment is the most effective way to reduce a patient's risk of long term disability.

medicines can help to reduce the risk of blood  clots and blood pressure which can lead to stroke whether you are trying to prevent the first stroke or the second , seek medical help to learn about stroke prevention methods for you ,including the right medications and life style changes.

thank you..
