On the right bank of the Yamuna River in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India, lies the mausoleum made of ivory-white marble known as the Taj Mahal. The mausoleum of Mumtaz Mahal, the fifth Mughal emperor Shah Jahan's beloved wife, as well as Shah Jahan's own tomb, were both commissioned in 1631

Taj Mahal, often spelt Tadj Mahall, is a mausoleum complex in Agra, in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, in the west. The Mughal emperor Shah Jahn (reigned 1628–1588) erected the Taj Mahal to honour his wife Mumtaz Mahal (also known as the "Chosen One of the Palace"), who passed away in childbirth in 1631 after being the emperor's constant companion since their marriage in 1612. It is located in the eastern section of the city on the southern (right) bank of the Yamuna (Jumna) River and is arguably the most well-known and recognisable structure in all of India. The Taj Mahal lies roughly one mile (1.6 km) to the west of Agra Fort (Red Fort), which is situated on the right bank of the Yamuna. The Taj Mahal stands out for its pleasing proportions and smooth blending of ornamental features.

In the years 1632 to 1653, the Taj Mahal was constructed. Shah Jahan invested close to 32 million rupees in building what is today known as the symbol of love. Are you curious about the current worth of money? The sum would be close to $1 billion today. The Taj was embellished with over 28 different kinds of precious and semi-precious stones that were sourced from Tibet, China, Sri Lanka, and various regions of India. In order to build the Taj Mahal, materials were brought in from all around Asia and India. The construction materials are claimed to have been transported by more than 1,000 elephants. The four minarets, or pillars, are slanted outwards rather than standing straight, if you look closely.

Most of the calligraphy on the Taj Mahal's walls was inspired by the holy book, the Quran Sharif. The verses are written on the tombs of Queen Mumtaz Mahal and Emperor Shah Jahan in addition to the Taj Mahal's walls. The marble stones that were used in the construction came from various places and nations. In addition, Jade and Crystal were imported from China, Jasper from Punjab, Lapis Lazuli from Afghanistan, Carnelia from Arabia, and Turquoise from Tibet. The translucent white marble was purchased from Makrana, a renowned location for marbles in Rajasthan.Qutub Minar is five feet shorter than the Taj Mahal in height. Many daffodils, rosebushes, and fruit trees are mentioned in early descriptions of the Taj Mahal's original garden.
