What Does It Mean To Be Beautiful?

It is a very generic thing where people are conditioned to for a really long time. And it's not always their fault to think like that on first instance and that is because of the conditioning by the society.

So what does it mean to be beautiful? Or handsome? Is it about the looks, the colour, the physicality or any other attributes? Being beautiful has little to do with your looks and everything to do with your soul. It is the soul that makes us more attractive as that is what remains when the so called beauty fades.

It is all about how you feel about yourself rather than how you look. What you feel internally is what reflects externally to others. Confidence and character is true beauty. And if you don't feel any of it, that's because of the stereotypical approach of beauty you are conditioned to or the society has imposed upon you.

Unfortunately it is not only about the society but it also happens within our own circle of family and friends where they talk about them not being fair or being dark but at the end of the conversation, they say it doesn't matter. Then why on earth do they talk about it?

If an individual who doesn't fall under the stereotypes of being beautiful achieves something and they get praised saying it isn't about beauty, it is all about talent and hard work, does that mean they aren't beautiful? This happens even in the entertainment industry where they get body-shamed or colour-shamed or even say that he or she is not good enough for the other person. It is those very people who later preach that it isn't right when someone else does it or say that it isn't about “beauty” and all that and so on. Hypocrites!

Social media itself is full of hypocrites as they don't usually practice what they preach. All of us are conditioned to the general stereotypes that it takes to break them and that starts from you and then the others. Change begins with YOU!

The same thing happens with being an introvert or an extrovert. They think that an introvert means being shy that they don't talk to others and extrovert means energetic and full on mode. Nothing like that, everyone is an extrovert and an introvert depending on the people and the surroundings so that makes them an ambivert.

The reason why I decided to write about this was in class, as part of practical we were asked to create a scene and while I described mine to the class, I was asked about the setting and the characters and their characteristics and I answered them without any hesitation. Then the faculty asked me if the character was “beautiful.” I didn't like the way it was asked because what did they mean by that. I paused for a moment because of the question and answered yes the character is beautiful. I understand the question was based on the stereotypes but I didn't expect that coming from the faculty.

That was also followed by the release of a new song and there are people commenting that the heroine is not good enough, not pretty enough and that is saddening.

We decide our lives and choices and we decide how we look or want to look. Nobody is perfect and it is those imperfections that make us unique and different from one other.

So I am ending this blog by saying that you are all beautiful / handsome and you should believe that. If you believe that you are beautiful / handsome, please like share and comment.
