When a cast and crew come together for an interview or a press conference as part of their film promotion, the kind of questions they usually expect are:
(Even though some are usual and boring, they are happy to talk about it as long as it is about their work and their project.)
But what are the kind of questions they are being asked:
(Followed by a lot of uncomfortable questions about their personal lives and the films involved.)
This has become a norm in all interviews and press conferences for quite some time. They ask everything except about the film the team has come to promote. Nobody cares! The crappier the questions get, the harder it is for anyone to watch them. Well, I really can't watch it on hearing the kind of questions asked by the media. It is really hard to watch one these days, even if it is of the people you like, only because of the questions and the interviewers.
There are two kinds of promotion involving the media. One is the interview and the other is the press conference; the latter being the worst (the former is no good either.)
In terms of interviews, their main motive is to get some content for their channel and ask questions that are not even related to the film or the person, but still, they ask. And also a bunch of personal questions making them so uncomfortable. And in the end, saying it is for fun. They barely do any sort of homework or preparations for the guests they are interviewing except for their favourite stars whom they treat very nicely and respectfully whereas, for others, there is barely any preparation or homework about their work or themselves and instead ask them about others making it more about them and very less about the guests they are interviewing. And the kind of questions are totally irrelevant made out of variety and their curiosity. Then there are some who don't care what they are saying even when it was the host who asked them and some who attempt to juice out some spark of controversy by provoking them to an extent of spiking their temper. But the guests have to be composed because it is their need to promote and also if they react to those provocations, it is going to come out in the wrong way because the media has the footage out of which they can create the news in their own way.
Even it comes to press conferences, it is an amalgamation of all those mentioned where they come together and ask crappy questions as they always do. They are only asked to comment about the current issues happening in the industry or in the state and barely about the film. There is no respect for anyone on the dais and blatantly demands people. And mostly the questions are to the star and they don't even bother to ask the other actors or crew in the press and the only thing they ask them if about the star. The answers to the questions are subjective but here they want objective answers like they want only the answers they want where the guests are forced to praise stars and the films on the stage when they aren't even involved in it.
On one side, social media criticises the media for the substandard questions and the way they behave and on the other hand, when somebody actually reacts, they blame them for being hasty and term them arrogant and so on and justify the media for their irresponsible attitude. I don't know what to call it exactly; double standards? There are some who actually justify them as if it is no big deal. And the media justify themselves that they can ask whatever they want. And when somebody reprimands them, it is the guests who are accused for being indignant and not behaving well.
Well, they are also human beings with feelings and emotions and you don't expect them to be emotionlessly responding to whatever you throw at them (not literally) I have seen many of the guests pissed that they wanted to beat them up or get up and leave. Maybe they aren't able to handle it well or they chose not to for the sake of their film.
And this helpless situation is an advantage and they can get away with it and keep on being crappier as always the crew and the cast has to promote their film and one bad behaviour shouldn't affect their film. Because there are always people looking for reasons to criticise and abuse someone. Sometimes I assume what would I do if I had been in their place. Forget doing, I wouldn't even be there at all to confront or talk to those wolfs.
It is hard and it can go on for long when it shouldn't. With the cameras and mics shoved upon into someone's space you except them (celebrities) to be respectful when you clearly aren't. And then they play the victim when criticised outside and still act careless. They talk about bringing out the truth when it was never the case even after knowing that it wasn't the truth. It is the attitude you know and that is being justified and continued. I am talking about the interviews in the South of India; particularly Kerala. Not sure of the other parts, but I am sure they are also flawed; some of them. Even after mentioning all the flaws and crappy behaviour of the media, they are very few who are actually sensible and that needs to be appreciated.
What are your thoughts about the same? Let me know in comments. I will see you in the next blogpost. Bye!
