We all carry different emotions in our life which makes life complete. At times,it feels like we are ruled by these emotions. This article  tells you about a dish which is imbibed of all such emotions into it in a sense which makes us ready for a year ahead. This dish is named as Ugadi pachadi which is prepared on the eve of Ugadi, the telugu new year day.The word Ugadi is derived from sanskrit which means yuga-era,aadhi-beginning (beginning of new year). This festival is celebrated in karnataka, Andhra pradesh and telangana based on the hindu lunar calendar and also called Gudi padwa which is celebrated by marathi and konkani hindus.I never thought of reason behind celebrating this festival uptill one of my friend asked about the same.It is said that lord Brahma the creator of the universe is supposed to have created universe on this day,so this is the reason for our celebration.

Ugadi pachadi

This is a very simple dish, yet it is very unique of it's kind and has a purpose to it.

Getting into details of it, six different ingredients go into the dish which indicates six different feelings or emotions of our life.

1.Jaggery or ripe banana - sweetness - Happiness

2.Neem buds - bitterness - Sadness

3.Green chilly/pepper - hot taste - Anger

4.Salt - saltiness - Fear

5.Tamirind Juice - sourness - Disgust

6.Unrippened mango - tangy flavor - Surprise.

All the above ingredients have to be washed and has to be cut accordingly and mix all of them together with the help of water. Amount of water to be added depends upon the consistency we need and that makes the dish.

This dish also has great nutritional values.Pachadi with neem, tamarind and raw mango prepares the body to fight against different infections and also neem has very good medicinal properties which is widely used in ayurveda. Raw mango is rich with antioxidants which helps eliminating toxins from our body. Pepper corns help in fighting seasonal infections like cold.

Dish tastes so good and as u have a sip of it, your taste buds will get activated and feels like a burst of all the flavours together

People visit the temple to seek blessings for the new year.Families come together for a delicious meal to celebrate the festive spirit.Traditionally,Astrologers predict what's in our fate according to our zodiac sign.So it is obviously a mix of sweet and salt, just like our dish!
