The Micro , small and medium enterprises have been accepted world wide. World wide MSME's are accepted as the engines which are driving the economic growth and for promoting equitable development. They constitute over 19% of the total enterprises and economies and are known for generating high revenue jobs.
They have huge importance in terms of Indian economy. They are the second most largest employment generator after agriculture, i.e., 120 million people are engrossed in this particular sector which provide with 36 million units throughout the country and contribute 6.11% to the manufacturing GDP as well as 24.3% GDP from service sectors. MSME's have decided to contribute almost 50% of the GDP to the Indian economy as India becomes a five trillion dollar economy. MSME's also provide employment opportunity in rural areas, such as Khadi and village industries that are coming in the near future.
There are a lot of factors that lead to the growth of MSME's in India and the first one being the campus that has been run by the government, the different schemes such as Make up India, Make in India, Startup India, they provide MSME's players with a leveled plain ground. The digitalization of India, the increased penetration of digital as well as different facilities of technologies to the rural as well urban areas has made it for the MSME's to grow and sustain. The younger generation is changing their main occupation from agriculture to entrepreneurship.
Off course there are some challenges and issues faced by them, firstly 90% of MSME's are dependent on informal source of income. Access to the market and non-avaibility of market supply is adding to the cause of it. Also the lack of man power causing difficulty to the MSME's to send their goods to the government agencies and competition from the MNC's from around the world have also created difficulty for them to grow. Access to technology, the weak financial standing, MSME's are an unorganized sector and a lower adaptive techniques to new technologies has also caused trouble that is why there is no ease of doing business.
The public sector companies now have compulsorily started acquiring 25% instead of earlier 20% purchases in MSME's. More than forty thousand MSME's registered on government provide transparency and can also eventually help in curbing the problem of corruption. According to the world bank MSME's contribute to 60% of their total employment and 40% of their national employment in emerging countries. 600 million jobs have been needed in the next years for growing global workforce.
