Me And Why Do I Fast

Hello there everyone, after a really long time I am back and this time with a story or rather an answer to the question everyone is quite interested to know.

As by my name you can know that I am not a Muslim and hence fasting in the month of Ramadan is not something common in non-Muslims. But like i sad in the title i FAST! This is sometimes so triggering for some and sometimes motivating too, i will talk about both the aspects today but first lets understand what Ramadan is and why do Muslim fast in the month of Ramadan and how they are not starving themselves to death;)

Ramadan falls in the 9th month of the Islamic lunar calendar and the holy month of fasting. You are abstained from eating anything or drinking water while the sun is up in the sky, you can eat before the sunrises and after the sun sets. Yes Islam has a different calendar don't be alarmed there is a different calendar that is followed by Hindus as well aka Hindu calendar. This year it started from the 3rd April and will last till 3rd May in India especially so it lasts for 30 days. There are different pillars in Islamic faith and fasting is one of them and that is why it is considered so important by Muslims to fast especially in the month of Ramadan.

Now that you got a slight idea of what Ramadan is or if not then you may go and Google it or watch some videos to clarify more or just to know more about the faith. So, the main question or a very general question that everyone asks me is why are you fasting being a non-Muslim?

Well. I will divide my answer into three parts. The first reason or the part of my answer is not very intellectual like I just wanted to know what it takes to be hungry and thirsty the entire day. But by far I have been lucky enough to have read some fabulous Novels by Muslim writers or novels based on Islamic countries which always talked about Ramadan, there was a mention of fasting, giving, taking care of, avoiding wrong doing and so many things. These books made me curious about the month and i started searching about it but lost interest as I got busy with my college. But as corona came and we all were home and I luckily got to know that Ramadan will start I thought why not give it a try. One of my close friends is a Muslim so I never had to worry about the over flowing information, I always had him to answer to all my questions.

In short I just wanted to put myself into their shoes, there are my unfortunate nations with majority population being Muslims which are debarred or even two meals a day, I wanted to know what it goes for them to fast in such a situation where they know they ight not get to eat even when the sun sets.

The second reason for me would be to train my mind to not to choose something that is very obvious like drinking water or eating something. This phase has helped me get away from social media for a really long time which I think you all should try as well but there is some other level of satisfaction that one gets from training one's mind.

Lastly, Intermittent fasting is a growing trend on social media or in the society for to say. If I were to fast for 30 days I knew it would give me some good results and I thought why not? but to be very honest you can never loose weight if you break your fast with Dosa or a Sandwich. The thing is we are so hungry that anything that is tempting has to be on our plate, and it is quite necessary to fill our stomach as well.

There is still a lot to talk about but i think this is quite enough for you all to judge me which  think you already did after reading the very first paragraph of this blog but any who i am enjoying my time fasting and meditating five times a day and getting my peace of mind other is up to to you to think and decide. Ramadan Kareem.

Thankyou🌸
