In todays weaponry and the inventory we have almost 60-70% Russian equipment's. We have also the number one importer of defense equipment's in the world, and our main exporter is the United States of America. 

The current defense budget, which is only 7 billion dollars which makes it very hectic for the Indian armed forces to acquire new technologies, new weaponry, new equipment's from the world specially at a very expensive cost, buying from the world leaders like USA, Germany, France, Russia, Israel, United Kingdom. That is why the Indian government in 2014 released a memorandum which decided to make India the defense manufacturing hub.

What kind of things India can export and we can do with our current technologies? 

First of all, India has been making many things raging from aircraft carriers to submarines to choppers to fighter jets as well as artillery. We have made every thing that is present in the world to fight wars but we have not been able to provide it as an export option to other countries and that is because of the low quality of standards that the Indian manufactures have. That is why in 2019-2020 the Indian defense forces exported equipment's worth 1million dollars to the countries in the Indian ocean region as well as the world leaders such as USA, United Kingdom, France, Israel, Germany, Australia, UAE, Canada, Africa, South Africa etc. The Indian government also plans to expand it to almost 5 million dollars in the next five years. 

There are several other things which also have to be taken into consideration. If we are able to provide he much needed equipment's to the smaller countries present in the Indian ocean region, we will achieve two targets. First, we will be able to counter china's belt and road initiative, the string of pearls that china has been following religiously in the Indian ocean region. While at the same time come out as the exporter of defense equipment's to the small countries which are only dependent on the imports of such kinds of things for its needs. 

In the end I would like to say that the participation of private players is very essential to improve our standards of defense equipment's which in the long run can help us to export tings in the smaller countries in the neighborhood as well as some large countries in the world.
