Blue Economy is a concept introduced by Gunter Pauli in 2010 in his book “ Blue Economy : 10 years, 100 innovations and 100 million jobs”.
The main concept behind blue economy is the resourceful utilization of resources in the maritime, as well as preserving the aquatic life and making use of thigs present in the ocean for the benefit of the growth of economy of all the world and also to generate more jobs. Apart from that Gunter Pauli also had a vision to completely change the whole of the worlds space as far as maritime securities are concerned, talking first about of how oceans are responsible in this. Now oceans cover 99 percent of all the living beings it also covers 97 percent of total water present in the world and also had land mass on it, it also absorbs 30-40 percent of carbon emission done by humans and also provides 50 percent of oxygen by the use of fat phytoplankton's, which is present in the ocean. Apart from that it can also drive the global economy towards complete future as far as economic growth for all the countries is concerned. the oceans also provide 80 percent of all the trade happening in the world, oil transport from gulf countries to all the countries, and apart from that it has also helped us produce new drugs or vaccines especially in the time of COVID by using the chemicals fisheries, resources found in the depth of the ocean. Oceans are also a huge store of minerals that one country can drive from its exclusive economic zone within 20 nautical miles of its coast.
The threats or the challenges through ocean to a particular country are through piracy which is a threat to the trade between different countries. Secondly, the natural disasters like cyclones, thunderstorms, floods, tsunamis etc. Some man made disasters such as crude oil split in the oceans, over exploitation of resources, over grazing of the fisheries has also disturbed the aquatic life. And the forth one is the threat that some of the expansionist countries possess towards the world.
I would also like to say that India can use it to sustain and to develop its sustainable development goals through which it can try to remove poverty and corruption from its system the second one is that India can also take advantage of the exclusive economic zone from its seven thousand five hundred and seventy kilometer long coastline which has 2.02 mainly nautical millions of exclusive economic zone which is 18th largest in the world. It can also help India to achieving its aim of becoming a 5 trillion dollar economy in the near future.
