What is child labor?
When children are deprived of their essential need i.e education and made to work is called child labor. It is practiced all over the World and all countries are trying to ban it but still many countries are not able to ban it.

Child labor and India-
In India working of children below 14 years is considered child labour.India is the second largest populated country and one of the poorest countries.According to censes 2017-18 only 49.8% of India's population is working.According to census 2011,the number of children who are working in India is at least 10.1 million(3.9% of total child population in India) which include 5.6 million boys and 4.5 million girls.
Some laws of India that do not allow child labor-
‌Child Labor Amendment(Prohibition and Regulation) Act 2016 does not allow children below the age of 14 to work except as a child artist or to run family business.
‌The Factories Act of 1948 does not allow children below the age of 14 years to work in any factory. This law also defined who, when and how long can pre adults aged 15-18 years be employed by any factory.
The Mines Act 1952 prohibits the employment of children below 18years of age to work in a mine.Mining being one of the most dangerous occupations, have taken lives of many children in past that is why employing of children in mines is completely banned .
‌The Juvenile Justice(Care and Protection) of Children Act of 2000 this law made it a crime punishable with a prison term for anyone who employee a child in any hazardous bondage. This act provides punishment to those who act in contravention to the previous acts by employing children to work.
‌The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act of 2009 this law mandates education to all children aged between 6-14 years. This act also mandates that 25% of seats in every private school must be alloted to children from disadvantaged groups and physically challenged children.

How can eradication of child labor help?
‌Eradicating child labor can help generate more job opportunities for unemployed youth as they can work in place of the children who are working.
‌It can help generate more economy to poor class people.
‌It can help increase literacy rate of the country as children will focus on studies than work.
‌It can help decrease tragic accidents happening to children in factories. It can help prevent children from getting attacked by diseases like asthma, eye disease, skin problem and many more.
