Hey all,
Most of the girls reading this would feel highly relatable because being a girl and being brought up in an orthodox, highly patriarchal family I have seen since my birth how we are always taught to settle down with what is provided to us and compromise. I realised that to some extent adjustments should be made and even those adjustments should be both ways but compromising should not be done.
I have seen girls compromising in their marriage, studies, freedom self-respect and almost giving up everything which is rightly theirs. I have rarely seen males compromising their male ego and being empathetic towards another woman. I don’t understand why always a woman is blamed when a marriage breaks or why is it a big taboo to get divorced. Mistakes happen. Life is all about making mistakes and moving on but still, people consider living in an unhealthy environment or unhappy surroundings better than getting separated.
Society has always been a hypocrite since the beginning. It has always been against intellectual women, has always wanted women to have an inferior status in society. This is so deeply engraved in the minds of men that a woman must look after the house, its belongings, their children. Women have never been given equal stature irrespective of their hard work and calibre. They have always been considered inferior and were even treated like slaves. Even today a woman’s words have no value. They are not seen as equals but of lower status than men. People can’t tolerate a woman ruling or a woman earning more than her husband. They feel ashamed and their egos are hurt this way. That’s the reason why women are considered doubly marginalized too. First for their sex and then for whatever thing they are fighting for. It has always been a woman against the whole society, including her father, brother, husband, co-worker, boss and possibly every male whom she encounters and even with those whom she doesn’t have any link with, throughout her life. That’s the reason a girl is taught to sacrifice and compromise because she struggles throughout from her birth to her death.
Every time she is questioned, her clothing is commented upon, her behaviour is noticed, her smiles are misjudged, her nature is moulded, her entire life becomes a façade because of this hypocritical, patriarchal society.
Thank you.
