We are living in this world of socializing - physically or virtually. And in making the unending efforts of showing off to people our every action, thought, and feeling we forget to meet ourselves or having a conversation with ourselves. What is it like to live alone with oneself? How does it feel? Would I be comfortable in the first place while being all alone, not having any contact with anyone? Many such questions raised in my mind while watching this amazing web series - ‘Solos’ on prime video.
This seven episodes series reveals seven different characters struggling to live alone in the crisis of pandemic or any other similar disaster. It is a science fiction series showing how advanced technology can try to help people ahead of time but still, they are not happy. Every story of every episode makes you think and leaves you in awe at the same time when you understand the philosophy of life.
Sometimes being in solitude you can look at your life with aloofness and analyze your own strengths, weaknesses, your flaws, your thoughts and still be yourself without judgment.
The series starts with the first character Leah, who is trying to time travel to go into the future just to avoid the mental stress she is going through due to her most loved mom's disease. The second character Tom hires his clone bot to look after his family when he is about to die. Another character Peg, is a 71-year-old woman who chooses to avail the adventure of traveling to space as she has lived her life sacrificing her own desires thinking that she didn't want to be a bother. Then comes Sasha, who refuses to step out of her smart home even after 20 years of the virus. Jenney talks about her failed marriage and how embarrassing scenes she has gone through her life. Nera delivers a baby boy through advanced technology software but there is something wrong with it and the boy is not normal. And last is the story of Stuart who is a dementia patient who is guilty of stealing the memories of people. Every episode starts with a thoughtful question from the narrator. "If you travel to the future can you escape your past?", or “Who are you when you cannot remember who you are?”, or “Imagine meeting yourself who do you see?”, “How far would you travel to find yourself again?” , “Is the threat outside greater than the one within?”. These questions compelled me to think about my own life!
It's 4 stars from me.
