Is there such a thing as zero calories drinks?

We all have heard and some of us have drank zero calories drinks such as diet pepsi, Coco cola zero sugar, aquafina flavour splash etc. that claim to have zero calories and no sugar, the fact is that there is no such thing as a zero calorie drink.

A beverage is said to be zero calories if it consists of less than five calories and no artificial sweeteners which acts as a substitute for sugar.

Although, such drinks try to imitate the taste and flavour of the original beverage without the calories and sugar, they are not very successful.

Research has shown that drinking zero calorie or diet beverages can have a negative effect on your overall health and wellbeing.

It is said to be responsible for causing lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and obesity that affect the metabolism rate of the body.

Drinking zero calorie drinks, can cause heart disease, high blood pressure, liver disease, damage of blood vessels, stroke and memory loss.

Many studies have shown that zero calories drinks can make you overweight, especially those who lead a sedentary lifestyle.

Zero calorie drinks can also change the way we behave and how the brain responds to sugary drinks, the artificial sweeteners present in diet beverages, can become like an addiction and the more we drink it, the brain views it as something that fulfills the body's need to be rewarded.

Research has shown that those who drink diet drinks, are more likely to get diabetes, the link to the disease was proven after the results of the individuals family history, age, gender, type of lifestyle and body mass index were studied.

It must be noted that there is no evidence to suggest that zero calorie drinks are good for your health.

Drinking water is a better alternative to diet drinks, if you want to stay healthy then avoid sugary drinks, including all drinks that contains artificial sweeteners.

In order to reduce your dependence on diet beverages, one needs to understand why they prefer zero calories drinks to healthier options that are available to them.

Some of us prefer diet drinks, because we trick ourselves into thinking that it is healthy and good for us, the fact is that drinking tea, coffee or milk without adding sugar is a healthier alternative to zero calorie drinks that contains artificial sweeteners which are just as bad as adding sugar.

Everyone loves sweet flavoured drinks, if you really want to enjoy sweets, then we need to drink juice from fruits like apple, mangoes, grapes etc., which gives us natural sugar that does not negatively affect our health.

Drinking diet drinks can become a habit, if we care for ourselves, then it is better to reduce the number of times that you drink such beverages during the course of the day.

To conclude, zero calorie drinks, do not give us any health benefits, in fact they may be responsible for placing our lives at risk and suffering from diseases that can be avoided by taking the necessary precautions.
