Understanding The Major Areas Of Well Being
Health can be described as being in good mental and physical condition without suffering from any illness and the body functions to the best of its abilities without any breakdown.
The information age has given us access to many sources that give us a better idea about what health means to us and how our lifespan and the type of lifestyle that we lead make a difference to our good health.
In order to understand health better, we can break it down into three broad categories that includes the physical, mental and emotional areas of what makes us healthy.
- Mental wellbeing is a state of wellness where a person has the mental strength to deal with the stress and the challenges that one faces in their daily lives and being able to achieve the necessary results without breaking down. Your mental health is determined by your ability to achieve success in the face of failure and not letting anger and frustration get the better of you under any circumstances.
- Physical health plays a major role in our wellbeing, it not just about being physically strong, it about the ability to participate in daily activities and being able to endure difficult circumstances without being stopped by physical difficulties like injuries, disabilities, body pain, numbness etc. Our physical health depends upon the lifestyle choices that we make such as following the right diet and avoiding fast food, spending adequate amount of time on physical exercise by working out at the gym, playing sports like football, tennis, cricket etc. and getting the right amount of rest and relaxation without spending too much time in front of the screen.
- Emotional wellbeing is being able to control of your emotions in a mature way, that is avoiding getting angry and impatient when you find things are not going your way. When you are a part of a social group or community that is online or in person, it is natural for difference of opinions, misunderstandings and conflicts to occur, this is where emotional wellbeing is important, instead of reacting immediately without thinking, it helps to hear the other person out and allow them to give their opinions, this will help you to learn and grow and is beneficial to not just your relationship with others but also for your overall health and wellbeing.
Our health is determined by an inbuilt biological clock where we are regulated by the sun, that is we wake up during the day because this is the time when we are at our best to get things done and the night time is meant for sleeping so that our body recovers the energy that was lost during the day.
Today's world is fast paced and everyone is in a hurry to get things done, this may be viewed as efficiency and being more competent but this impacts your health and although it depends upon the requirements of the situation, it helps to go slow without too much stress that makes you unhealthy in the long run.
In the end, understanding the aspects of health and wellbeing makes a difference and only you can decide how to make it work for you.
