Too Much Yawning Is A Bad Thing

Yawning can be described as a natural process where we breathe deeply when we are tired, bored or feel sleepy without being able to control ourselves, since it is a reflex action.

Studies have shown that when you yawn, this is a unconscious way of telling others how we feel at that moment without actually expressing our thoughts with words.

Too much yawning becomes a bad thing when you have difficulty staying awake, even after getting the required number of hours of sleep and having trouble paying attention to what you are doing.

Here are some of the reasons why too much yawning is dangerous to your wellbeing:

  1. Suddenly falling asleep while you are at work, when you are travelling on the road, listening to music or watching television at home.
  2. Finding it difficult to wake up in the morning despite sleeping more than eight hours a day.
  3. Suffering from being unable to remember what it is you need to do for the day and constantly getting into arguments and shouting at others for things that do not matter.
  4. Having trouble communicating with others and taking a lot of time to respond when asked simple questions.
  5. Excessive yawning can also indicate serious health problems such as heart attack, brain tumor, liver failure etc.

There are ways we deal with the problem of too much yawning such as:

A) When you find yourself yawning too much, it could be the result of for example, spending too much time sitting at your desk while at work, avoid this and take a break from your work whenever possible.

B) Yawning is about breathing in and breathing out, next time you find yourself yawning too much try breathing exercises and practice holding your breath for as long as you can.

C) One can also try going for a short walk in the park or any other open space where one can breathe the cool and fresh air to reduce the chances of feeling like yawning.

D) For those of us who have to spend long hours working at our desk, we can stop yawning by making sure that we sit upright without bending our back while using the computer.

E) We need to keep a check on what we are eating, avoid fast food and anything that can affect the digestion process and can cause yawning.

F) We can also try getting regular head massage as this helps to improve the flow of blood to the head and reduce the feeling of yawning all the time.

In addition to the above steps, we need to monitor our behaviour and find out when the excessive yawning occurs. This can be done by noting down when this problem started, how many times does it happen during the day, does it happen when you are in a certain place or is it connected to the number of hours that you sleep.

Despite a number of studies conducted by experts, there are no definite answers to what causes excessive yawning, it is not something that is life threatening but if it interferes with you daily schedule then you need to consult a medical expert to get it resolved.
