We live on land and most of us are familiar with animals, plants and other living organisms that are found on land, what about the living things that are found in the rivers, oceans and seas.
This is what Marine Life is all about, the living things that live under water, India is a country which has amazing diversity of living things when it comes to Marine Life.
The water bodies in India and around the world are home to all kinds of fish and plants, from the minute plankton to the gigantic blue whale which is a mammal and does not have gills like the fish, which has given rise to the theory which has not been proven, that these incredible creatures and humans had a common ancestor.
Marine Life are an essential as they contribute to maintain the delicate balance of life on earth as we know it, we take them for granted and as a result there is a rapid decline in the survival of these unique life forms.
India is blessed with a coastline of nearly 8000 kilometres making it one of the few countries where different types of Marine life coexist, this includes rivers, mangroves, coral reefs and marshy lands.
We need to make efforts to save the marine life before it is lost forever, it is said but true that despite environmental changes and unstable weather conditions, we refuse to learn from our mistakes.
Here are some ways that we can work to improve upon the quality of Marine life found today:
2. There are species of fish that are yet to be discovered, it is unfortunate that we pollute the seas and are killing off the life forms before even learning about them.
3. One of the biggest killers of marine life is plastic bags, tin cans and products made from plastic such as water bottles, these plastic products are are swallowed by the fish which leads to their deaths that is caused due to our careless behaviour.
4. The transportation of petroleum by oil tankers is the life blood of our economy, transportation cannot function without petroleum, unfortunately there have been numerous instances of oil spills that destroy the marine life and sometimes the harmful effects lasts for a long time.
5. Overpopulation has led to a gap between demand and supply, the marine life are not given a chance to survive and their numbers are declining at an alarming rate.
6. In recent years, the deadly effects of man made destruction of marine life can be seen with Marine life such as whales and dolphins that live in the deep seas, washing up to shore dead.
To conclude, marine life is precious, we need to learn from the mistakes of the past and take steps to preserve the marine life before it is too late to save them.
