The ability to see is called eyesight, without vision our lives become difficult, eyes are our window to the world.
We live in the information age, where we are dependent on electronic devices for both our professional and personal lives.
Electronic devices including television, smartphone and tablets, gaming devices and smart television are devices that we use and we spend a lot of time in front of these screens, this causes a strain on our eyes due to continuous focus on the screen and doing this for long periods of time can lead to loss of vision and blindness.
Electronic devices have become a part of the fast paced lifestyle that we lead, where we work for long hours, watch movies, browse the internet, listen to music and play games. All these activities have a negative effect on our eyes, it makes our eyes water, we see double and our vision gets blurred indicating that our eyes are tired from overuse and need to get some rest.
The excessive dependence on electronic devices has led to digital eye strain or Computer vision syndrome, the causes of this includes eye fatigue and dryness, burning and itchy eyes, headaches, getting easily distracted and difficulty keeping things in focus.
The common ways you maybe suffering from this problem, would be the negative impact of radiation of light from the screen, that can affect your eyesight when you blink less and it can cause dust particles to stick to your eyes which can damage the cornea, which is present to protect the eye from infections.
Those who already suffer from eye problems, it is made worse if you continuously are in front of a screen, things that are nearby appear either blurry or further away than they actually are.
How to prevent the long term of this syndrome:
2. Blinking our eyes plays an important role in protecting our eyes from dryness, when we spend too much time in front of a screen, we blink less, so in order to keep our eyes healthy we need to blink more whenever possible.
3. The brightness of the screen causes avoidable strain on the eyes, the solution to this is decreasing the brightness of the display accordingly, so that the effect of the contrasting screen colours are reduced.
4. Use an anti glare filter for your screen, this will help to protect your eyes from the harmful effects of radiation and reduce the reflection of light from the screen.
We need to be grateful for the gift of vision, it is the eyes that gives us the opportunity to see and experience the beauty of the world around us.
