Review Of The Movie Diary: Too Many Deviations!

Innasi Pandiyan, who is making her directorial debut, made the horror-thriller movie Diary. Arulnithi plays the lead in the movie, which was funded by Fivestar Kathiresan.

Premise:

As his first case, Arulnithi, a police officer, chooses an old dacoity case that hasn't been solved. The main plot point of the story is how he effectively resolves the case; there is a special reason for it that is disclosed later.

writing and direction

We are in for at least a passable thriller, according to the opening scenes. I even started to wonder whether the operator had changed the movie or anything after the track completely changed. Nearly three-fourths of the movie was taken up by the bus sequence, which was largely uninteresting and without any significant plot points. The absence of any preparation or buildup for the bus incident is another major issue. I wondered what was going on since it seemed as though random strangers were entering the bus one by one out of nowhere. The scenarios are offensive, and the sequences aren't cohesive. The goal is to connect the lines and bring them together at a single place, but the screenplay is not written in a way that makes it easy to do. The film struggles to decide between the two and presents the thriller to horror transition in an unconvincing way. The crew has made numerous attempts to leap scare the audience, but the outdated tactics don't work anymore. We are allowed to speculate about the narrative until the very end, when the real revelation of the story occurs. The direction isn't clever enough, and a lot of explanations are repeated even though they are obvious to the audience previously. The big twist is predictably revealed just at the finale, thus there is no element of surprise. A clever story aspect helped the movie end in a pleasant way. The last five minutes of the film feature a tiny unexpected turn. The movie picks up steam with a brief surprise turn in the final five minutes, but it's too late for it to be terrific. The show is further degraded by cringe-worthy speech and overblown sentiment.

Performances:

Arulnithi does well in a cop role that doesn't require him to work particularly hard. He also has intermittent screen time; despite being the main character, he doesn't show up constantly. Although debut heroine Pavithra Marimuthu did a respectable job, her role isn't convincing enough because it doesn't have much of an impact on the plot. Sha Ra's presence is surprisingly bearable; these days, he is less obnoxious on television, and some of his one-line gags actually work. Numerous other performers have ample screen time, but none of them have compelling roles to play, therefore their performances are boring.

Technicalities:

Even though the songs don't fit the movie well, Ron Ethan Yohann's music is quite good to listen to. He has attempted to strengthen all the weak points of the narrative with some heavyweight compositions, and the background score is tremendous. Exotic hill settings are used in aerial shots, and there are some attractive frames inside the cramped bus, but because the day-to-night conversion looks terrible on a large screen and the VFX are of bad quality, the movie loses its credibility. In order to tighten the output's engagement, precise editing was absolutely important because dragging scenes greatly impede the flow. The crew produced clap-worthy sound effects, and it is clear that they tried to make an impression.

Summary: Has a respectable beginning and conclusion. The engaging plot is drained by a lacklustre writing chock full of pointless and protracted passages. Weak narrative wastes some interesting ideas.
