The main highlights from the third and final unofficial one-dayer between India A and New Zealand A at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. India A bagged the series 3-0, with a 106-run win.
The sizzling cameo of Thakur:
The India dressing room has given Thakur the moniker Beefy, a la Ian Botham, due to his all-around prowess. His 51 off 33 at a strike rate of 154.55 showed a hint of his batting fireworks, helping India reach 284. Van Beek was the victim of some particularly harsh hitting from Thakur, who scored two sixes and a four in one over. His runs were on-side for 63% of the time. Both the roster for the forthcoming T20 World Cup and the recently finished Asia Cup did not include Thakur. Thakur has previously stated that skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid were considering him for all three formats after the first unofficial one-dayer. The seam bowling all-rounder is making a name for himself while the upcoming ODI World Cup in India is just over a year away. Each of Duffy, Fisher, and Rippon secured two wickets.
A brilliant moment:
The dismissal of Kuldeep Sen off the bowling of Michael Rippon will be noted as "c Bowes b Rippon." But to reduce it to a simple scorecard entry would be a tremendous injustice. Nowadays, relay catches are so common in white-ball cricket that it almost seems surprising when they are not made. But New Zealand One of the best moments that was never broadcast live will be remembered for the athleticism and skill of captain Tom Bruce at the long-on boundary. More impressive than the attempted catch was Bruce's effort because he thought to tell Bowes, a teammate at deep midwicket, to prepare for the lob back as he leapt to intercept the ball over the boundary. Bruce was duly swamped by his teammates after the dismissal.
Tilak continues to impress:
Mumbai Indians' Varma and Hrithik Shokeen put together a respectable stand of 48 runs in 47 deliveries in May of this year at the Wankhede Stadium to defeat Chennai Super Kings by five wickets and send them packing from the IPL 2022. Rohit Sharma, the captain, was so pleased with Tilak's temperament and technique during an undefeated 34 that he predicted Tilak "would be an all-format player for India pretty soon." Tilak and Jasprit Bumrah were Mumbai's only players to appear in all 14 games, and Tilak finished second on the club in runs scored with 397 while striking out 131 times and averaging 36.09.
